Ceylon Pepper

Pepper is the most used spice in the world and the king of all spices. Ceylon pepper is made from the berry of the plant Piper nigrum. Due to the presence of high amounts of piperine, Ceylon Pepper is spicier and more robust compared to other types of pepper found in the world.

Pepper is mostly used for culinary purposes, especially in curries and other spicy dishes. It is also used as an ingredient in herbal remedies and natural health products.

Black pepper is harvested before the green berries of the Piper nigrum plant are fully ripe. The berries are then cooked and dried, resulting in darker and spicier pepper.

Dried berries are set out to be cleaned by either machine for the removal of dust, stones and dirt. Grading is done according to the size, colour and density of the cleaned berries either by machines or by hand. Then grinding is done with manual grinding mills or mechanical grinding mills.
